On St. John the seagulls visit from late spring to early fall. Over the years they’ve been quite punctual, much like the whales. This year my first seagull sighting came on April 18th and several others spotted since.
They don’t all arrive at once, clearly seagull scouts are sent ahead to scope out the condition of last year’s vacation spot before waving in the family. St. John will be seagull city come June, but right now there are but a few. The sound of seagulls on St. John is a sure sign of summer, when the sun often wins out over cooler breezes. Thankfully St. John is surrounded by crystal clear waters, with temperatures on the right side of tepid this time of year, the ultimate in refreshing.
