Labor Day on St. John is a curious holiday. Unlike any other day of the year, the sleepy side called Coral Bay wakes up and goes a little nuts for a few hours. If you haven’t experienced the Coral Bay Labor Day parade, you haven’t seen how a small community of a few hundred year-round residents can get their spirits up. I’m told no one actually organizes it, it just happens.
Sometime around mid-day, cars and people, all decorated in some flashy weird way, gather to strut from one side of the bay to the other. The parade unofficially starts at the parking lot of Oasis and ends at the fire station. The best place to watch the excitement is Pickle’s Deli. A day like no other is just a regular day in Coral Bay!
